<p>Every living cell on this planet depends on minerals for proper function and structure. Minerals are needed for the proper composition of body fluids, the formation of blood and bone, the maintenance of healthy nerve function, and the regulation of muscle tone, including that of the muscles of the cardiovascular system. Like vitamins, minerals function as coenzymes, enabling the body to perform its functions, including energy production, growth, and healing. Because all enzymes activities involve minerals, minerals are essential for the proper utilization of vitamins and other nutrients.</p>
<p>The human body, as all nature, must maintain its proper chemical balance. This balance depends on the levels of different minerals in the body and especially the ratios of certain minerals levels to one another. The level of each mineral in the body has an effect on every other, so if one is out of balance, all minerals levels are effected. If not corrected, this can start a chain reaction of imbalances that leads to illness.</p>
<p>Minerals are naturally occurring elements found in the earth. Rock formations are made up of mineral salts. Rock and stone are gradually broken down into tiny fragments by erosion, a process that can take literally millions of years.</p>
<p>The resulting dust and sand accumulated, forming the basis of soil. The soil is teeming with microbes that utilize these tiny crystals of mineral salts, which are then passed from the soil to plants. Herbivorous animals eat the plants. We obtain these minerals by consuming plants or herbivorous animals.</p>
<p>Nutritionally, minerals belong to two groups: bulk minerals (also called macrominerals) and trace minerals (microminerals).</p>
<p>Bulk minerals include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. These are needed in larger amounts than trace minerals. Although only minute quantities of trace minerals are needed, they are nevertheless important for good health and maintaining balance. Trace minerals include boron, chromium, copper, germanium, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, silicon, sulfur, vanadium, and zinc.</p>
<p>Because minerals are stored primarily in the body&#8217;s bone and muscle tissue, it is possible to develop mineral toxicity if extremely large quantities are consumed. Such situations are rare, however, because toxic levels of mineral generally accumulate only is massive amounts are ingested for a prolonged period of time.</p>

<p>No one in modern America deserves more sympathy than the working parent on a limited budget. Finding the time, energy and means to prepare nutritious meals for oneself and one&#8217;s children poses a real challenge, especially as the temptation to opt for convenience foods is very great. The first step to meeting that challenge is the realization that fast foods are a terrible trap that, in the long run, leads to diminished vitality and, hence, even greater restrictions on one&#8217;s time, energy and budget-not to mention the tragedy of serious disease.</p>
<p>While it not necessary to spend long hours in the kitchen in order to eat properly, it is necessary to spend <em>some</em> time in the kitchen. Simple, wholesome menus require careful planning rather than long hours of preparation. Much can be accomplished in the way of advanced preparation by dedicating just one block of hour to five hours per week to food, which might include shopping, starting a large pot of stock to last the week, putting up a jar of fermented vegetables, making a batch of cookies for school lunches and preparing a large casserole of soup or stew that can last for several meals. Simple, nutritious meals can be prepared very quickly when one lays the groundwork ahead of time. If your present schedule allows no time at all for food preparation , you would be wise to re-examine your priorities. *** Health is #1***</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Don&#8217;t buy boxed cold breakfast cereals</strong>, even those made of &#8220;whole grains.&#8221; They are very expensive, poor nutrients and difficult to digest. A serving of the best quality organic oatmeal costs half the amount of the average boxed breakfast cereal and is infinitely more nutritious. For optimum nourishment, you need to think ahead and soak your oatmeal overnight. (See article on soaking).</li>

<ul>
<li><strong>Make your own salad dressing</strong>. You can make your own dressing using the finest ingredients for about the same cost as the average bottled dressings, most of which contain rancid vegetable oils, <em>trans </em>fatty acids and numerous additives. With practice, it takes no more than a minute to produce a delicious dressing for your salad. (See article on dressings).</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>Always buy butter</strong>. Margarine and shortening may cost less but it is a false economy, one that leads to numerous impoverishing diseases. If the cost of butter is prohibitive, use lard. * Costco on Maui has Organic Butter at a great price *</li>

<li>Make stock at least once a week. Meat stocks have formed the basis of nourishing peasants diets for millennia. They cost very little to make (often a good fish merchant will give you fish carcasses for free), are very nourishing and have a protein-sparing effect. That means you can get by with very little meat in the diet when you use properly made stock for soups and stews. Use congealed fat from stocks for cooking and leftover meat for soups, meat salads and other dishes.</li>
</ul>

<p>The problem of alcoholism is allied to the problem of nutrition in general. The root cause of alcohol cravings is a deficiency of B vitamins, trace minerals (<a href="http://earthtoskye.com/skyes-store/">Zeta Max</a>), and the amino acid glutamine. (2) Some practitioners find that alcoholics improve when grains are removed from their diets. (3) Thus, the best diet for the alcoholic is one that is high in B vitamins, devoid of all grains and sugars and rich in high-protein foods such as eggs and meat- not exactly the diet promoted by the <a href="http://www.mypyramid.gov/">Department of Agriculture and its new food pyramid.</a></p>
<p>Alcoholics tend to lack alcohol dehyrogenase, an enzyme that gets rid of alcohol. This implies <strong>deficiencies in magnesium and zinc</strong> as well as an overload on the pancreas, all of which can be ameliorated by a diet of nutrient-rich and enzyme-rich foods. Homemade bone brothers and lactofermented beverages can be particularly beneficial to the alcoholic because they aid digestion and the assimilation of much-needed nutrients.</p>
<p>The evidence of alcoholism is inconsistent.  Certainly the problem of alcoholism is enormous, particularly in the United States where there are some 15 to 20 million alcoholics, or one in every ten people. Alcoholics are more prone to disease and to accidents than the normal populations and tend to die young.  On the other hand, several traditional societies, noted for the longevity and food health of their citizens, consume moderate amounts of beer or wine made from grapes, bananas,<a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/duo2.jpg"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-341" title="duo2" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/duo2-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a> and other fruits. These wines tend to have a lower alcohol content than modern beers and wine. Research indicates that moderate consumption of alcohol, particularly wine, may prevent heart disease; one oft-quoted indicates that whose who drink moderately- one to two glasses of wine per day- in general live longer than those who overindulge, and than those who do not drink at all, but this may be the fact that such people tend to be moderate in <em>all </em>their habits<a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Alcohol-and-health_2.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail  wp-image-343" title="Alcohol and health_2" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Alcohol-and-health_2-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="117" height="117" /></a> and may be better able to afford a more nutritious diet. Other studies link even moderate alcohol consumption with breast cancer. (1)</p>
<p>The religious of the world differ in their laws on alcohol consumption, but most are in agreement that those on a spiritual path, or those who have chosen a life of devoted service, should refrain from alcoholic beverages. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">If you do drink, we urge you to partake only of wine or unpasteurized beer with meals in very moderate amounts and to abstain from all alcoholic from time to time.</span> Pregnant women should not consume alcohol. (If you use wine while cooking but want to be sure that the alcohol has evaporated, boil the sauce to which it has been added, uncovered, for about ten minutes.)<a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/non_alcoholic_beer3.jpg"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-342" title="non_alcoholic_beer3" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/non_alcoholic_beer3-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p><strong>What happens after an alcoholic gets off alcohol?</strong></p>
<p>Former alcoholics often replace alcoholic drunks with sweets and sodas without realizing that sugar lays havoc with the intestinal flora, fostering overgrown of <em>candida albicans</em>, and other fungi. Under certain conditions these pathogenic yeasts actually convert sugars in the gut to alcohol! There are well-documented cases of inebriation caused by sugar consumption and candida overgrowth in persons who do not drunk alcohol. (4) The alcoholic, in turning to sugar, of often supplying himself with alcohol through the day!</p>
<p><strong>Alcohol free beer</strong> and wine are high in carbohydrates and should also be avoided by those attempting to give up alcoholic beverages. Often they still contain 0.5 percent alcohol, and the taste of these wines and beers may perpetuate the longing for alcohol. As they have bee boiled to remove alcohol, they have been shorn of their enzyme content, which is a health-promoting, compensating factor in wine and unpasteurized beer.</p>
<p>The recipes for traditional lacto-fermented beverages are found here. Sally Fallon and advocates offer the theory that the craving for alcohol, as well as the craving for soft drinks, stems from an ancient collective memory, of the kind of lacto-fermented beverages still found in traditional societies. These beverages give a lift to the tired body by supplying mineral ions depleted through perspiration and make food taste more agreeable and satisfying by supplying <em>lactobacilli, </em>lactic acid and enzymes needed for easy and thorough digestion.</p>

<p>Every drug store, health food store and supermarket today presents a bewildering array of vitamins, minerals, and other supplements, all claiming to be the best. How do you know which ones are true-to-label, potent, made of the best forms of the nutrients? This article will help you separate the few that are excellent from the masses of ugly.</p>
<p>The majority of multi-vitamins are woefully inadequate. In a recent study at Yale New Haven Hospital, researchers evaluated all common brands of vitamins bought off the shelf at a wide range of stores. Many were made with wrong ratios of nutrients to each other, or contained too little of the more expensive nutrients, or were missing some nutrients altogether. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Of the 257 vitamin products tested, only 49 were judged to be adequate.</span>1</p>
<p><strong>Price of Nutrients</strong></p>
<p>Effective potency is only the first problem. Different nutrients vary widely in price. Iron sulfate for example, costs only pennies, whereas pure biotin costs around $6000 per pound, wholesale. Different forms of the <strong>same</strong> nutrient can also cover a 20-fold range in price. A pill reading, &#8220;Vitamin E as mixed tocopherol complex, 400 IU,&#8221; can contain anything from a cheap blend of 50% tocopherols and 50% vegetable oil, to a very expensive blend of 95% tocopherols and 5% vegetable oil. The only guide you have as a consumer is the retail price. *** So&#8230;You get what you pay for!**</p>
<p><a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/vitamin-labels-464.jpg"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail  wp-image-335" title="vitamin-labels-464" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/vitamin-labels-464-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a><strong>No Natural Vitamins</strong></p>
<p>Many companies falsely label their supplements &#8220;natural,&#8221; as do food companies (Natural Lays potato chips). Let&#8217;s get it straight. Vitamin pill ingredients today are about as natural as a polyester suit. Manufacturers dodge around this issue with phrases like &#8220;natural grown,&#8221; &#8220;natural source,&#8221; &#8220;food grown,&#8221; <span style="text-decoration: underline;">but the truth is, most pill ingredients are synthetic. </span>That is, they are natural materials (what else is there) treated with various chemical procedures, so that their resemblance to the natural material is remote.</p>
<p>Most vitamin C for example, is made from corn. First the corn is chemically converted to sugar (d-ribose). Then the sugar is chemically converted to pure, ascorbic acid. There is not a molecule of corn left in it. It is the chemical processing that makes it synthetic, not the raw materials it came from.</p>
<p>What about &#8220;natural rose hip&#8221; or &#8220;acerola&#8221; vitamin C. The best rose hip and acerola powders contain only a few milligrams of Vitamin C per gram. A 1000 mg pill of natural rose hip Vitamin C would be about the size of a baseball. All these so called &#8220;natural pills&#8221; are predominantly synthetic ascorbic acid, with a pinch of the natural powder thrown in for marketing.</p>
<p>Then there are those companies who claim that their pills are made of superior vitamins. Let&#8217;s get this one straight too. Almost all the vitamin raw materials in America come from a few large companies. Hoffman La Roche makes most of the vitamin C and many of the B-vitamins. Henkel makes most of the vitamin E. Almost all pill manufacturers buy their bulk powders from the same sources that are available to everyone.</p>
<p><strong>Elemental Minerals</strong></p>
<p>Most consumers don&#8217;t know that chemical forms of minerals are not elemental forms. A 1200 mg pill of calcium gluconate for example, is only 9% elemental. 2 That is, it contains only 108mg of calcium. To get the RDA for calcium, you would have to swallow eleven of these pills everyday.</p>
<p>The same goes for every mineral. Calcium citrate is only 21% calcium. Chromium picolinate is only 12.5% chromium. Magnesium aspertate is only 11% magnesium. Some forms contain only 1-2% of the mineral element. Manufacturers are supposed to state the elemental amounts on the label, but many do not!</p>
<p><strong>Chemical Forms</strong></p>
<p>By law, supplement pills have to be true to label chemically. That is, if the bottle says the pills contains say 300mg of magnesium, that is all it has to do. But many chemical forms of nutrients are hardly bioavailable at all. They pass right through your <a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Lab-testing.jpg"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-333" title="Lab-testing" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Lab-testing-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>intestines without ever being absorbed.</p>
<p>Magnesium supplied as magnesium oxide for example, is only one-tenth as bioavailable as magnesium aspertate. But the aspartate form is more expensive than the oxide and takes up more room in the pill. Manufacturers can save money by using the oxide. They can also fit more magnesium into a given size pill by using the oxide, and therefore can put a bigger number for magnesium, on the label. Consumers go for big numbers.</p>
<p>Some manufacturers fudge bioavailability by claiming particular absorption rates, such as 60%, for their multi-nutrient supplements. All such claims are false, because different nutrients and different forms of the same nutrient are all absorbed at different rates. An average absorption rate is advertising nonsense.</p>
<p>Of a 100 mcg vitamin B12 tablet for example, only about 3% is absorbed, whereas calcium acetate is 32% absorbed.2 To say the average absorption rate is 17.5% for the two combined, tells you nothing about either.</p>

<p>How did we get here-enforced vaccinations; pandemic flu scares; threats of mass inoculation? If you look at history, you&#8217;ll see we were set up. In 1903, our government passed the first mandatory vaccination law. Since that time, a relentless pro-vaccination campaign has been waged against the public by the trilogy of the United States government, local school systems and the western allopathic medical industry.</p>
<p><strong>History Reveals The Set Up<a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/vaccination_mandatory-764144.jpg"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-288" title="vaccination_mandatory-764144" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/vaccination_mandatory-764144-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></strong></p>
<p>To this day, the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">United States government is the largest purchaser of vaccines.</span> Nearly 30% of the Centers for Disease Control&#8217;s annual budget is dedicated to the purchase of vaccines with the assurance that every child is inoculated.</p>
<p>Each state has school vaccination laws that require children of appropriate age to be vaccinated for several communicable diseases. These laws mandate that children must be vaccinated prior to being allowed to attend public or private schools. Failure to vaccinate can result in a child being denied admittance to a school. Civil fines and criminal penalties can be levied against parents who don&#8217;t comply. What schools <em>don&#8217;t tell</em> parents is that in<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> every state an exemption exists allowing parents to refuse vaccines and allowing children to attend school.</span></p>
<p>* Skye Davis was not vaccinated as a newborn, infant or young adult and went to many different schools; public and private. Her mother, Carrie Branovan, had to sign a legal document stating that it was against our religious practices to vaccinate.*</p>
<p>Protection under the law favors the manufacturer, not the individual. Laws have been passed to protect vaccine manufacturers from liability while at the same time, <span style="text-decoration: underline;">state laws require parents to inject their children with up to 100 vaccinations antigens prior to entering school.</span> If a vaccine injury- or death- occurs after a vaccine, parents cannot sue the doctor, the drug company or the government. Instead they are required to petition the Vaccine Court for damages, which often takes years and is frequently denied.</p>
<p><a href="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/baby-shots-734181.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-289" title="baby-shots-734181" src="http://earthtoskye.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/baby-shots-734181-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>The medical industry advocates vaccines, often demanding that parents vaccinate their children or be dismissed from the medical practice. A sizable portion of a pediatrician&#8217;s income is derived from insurance reimbursement for vaccinations. The ever-expanding vaccination schedule includes increasingly more expensive vaccines that are a source of increased revenue for doctors.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, many doctor&#8217;s don&#8217;t read the package insert that comes with the vaccines. They&#8217;re not aware of the full range of chemicals a particular vaccine contains or the potential side effects. In theory, parents have the right to know the facts and then make a choice if their child will be vaccinated or not. *People are indoctrinated to believe that if its legal and reinforced it must be OK (ie soda, vaccines, alcohol). Do the research, it will prevent a lot of suffering further along in life. There is always enough time to educate ourselves on living a toxic free, stress free, energized life.</p>
